Teeth whitening is an application which has very satisfactory visual results. Teeth whitening has no negative effects on health. The best example of this is that we, dentists, apply teeth whitening to ourselves.
There are two types of bleaching methods: bleaching at home and bleaching in the clinic. The healthiest one is the whitening method applied in clinics under the supervision of a dentist. For bleaching at home, we do not recommend drugs that leak into the gums because such drugs cause gingival problems.
In the whitening method performed in the clinic, the first action will be to protect the gingiva with opaldam. Then bleaching is applied to enamel surfaces of the tooth and activated by laser. The fluid in the dentin tubules of the teeth is replaced with the liquid in the drug, resulting in bleached teeth.
The procedure usually lasts 1 session (average 30 minutes), but it can take up to 2 or 3 sessions, depending on the natural whiteness of the individual’s teeth. Drinking acidic beverages, smoking, taking tetracycline-containing drugs, drinking coffee and wine is not recommended. Acidic beverages are not recommended because they increase the sensitivity of the teeth and coffee and wine are colorants.
DURATION OF THE EFFECT OF TEETH WHITENING
Teeth whitening is applied in patients aged 18 and above. The effect of the procedure is long-lasting. After bleaching, there is no return to the original tooth color. However, in 5% of the patients it is not possible to achieve affirmative results due to genetic reasons and use of medication
In addition, detartrage (tooth cleaning by descaling) performed after the treatment will be sufficient to remove the effects of nutrients on the teeth. However, if the individual wishes to repeat the procedure, it can be applied again after 2 years.
